On Friday, October 21, at 4 p.m., Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson, Semmes Woman’s Club, BGCSA Board Member Angela Dunn, and guests were on hand for the dedication of the Semmes Boys & Girls Club Gymnasium.
After four years of work, the Gymnasium is complete. Club kids can enjoy a new play area with brightly colored fresh coats of paint, a renovated stage area with a new stage curtain, and remodeled restrooms.
Pastor Andric Daugherty, Pathway Church, gave the Dedication Prayer, and Commissioner Hudson gave remarks and addressed the Club kids. She shared her experiences as a member of the “Girls Club” where she made friends and had a great time. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to be able to step in and help fund some improvements here at the Club,” Commissioner Hudson says.
“The new gym is a welcome improvement to the club,” said Inger Anderson, Club Director. “The environment and the atmosphere are better.” Chief Philanthropy Officer Brenda Carlisle believes Club kids deserve the best. “Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama is committed to seeing our young people have a welcoming, safe and attractive environment to learn and grow to their full potential.”
A special thank you to Mobile County Commission, City of Semmes, Semmes Woman’s Club, Melvin Pierce Painting, Sherwin Williams Paints, Luke Hayes and Club Member Robert Hayes, Chilli Peppers Alterations & Sewing-Janet Hollinhead, and the Grainger Foundation.
