Robert Kennedy, Jr. selected as new CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama

(MOBILE, AL) Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama (BGCSA) & POINTE Academy LLC announce the appointment of Robert Kennedy, Jr. as the next Chief Executive Officer, effective

July 18, 2022. BGCSA Board of Directors conducted a national search with the assistance of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Talent Acquisition team. Kennedy succeeds Tim Wills, who resigned after six years as CEO.

Board Chair Todd Denison believes Kennedy is the right person to continue building on the progress of the Clubs. The Board expressed an interest in bringing on someone with expertise in marketing, general management, and human resource development in its search for a new leader. “We believe we got the right individual in Robert Kennedy, Jr. to partner with us to optimize our resource development so that we can expand the number of children we serve and who need us most,” says Denison. “There is so much need for our services in our community and, with Kennedy’s leadership, BGCSA is poised to deliver for the people of south Alabama.”

Kennedy brings 30 years of team leadership and budget management experience to the BGCSA organization. Most recently, Kennedy served as the Chief Marketing Officer for Brett/Robinson vacation rentals in Gulf Shores, Alabama. In this role, he was responsible for the strategic planning and tactical execution of marketing programs that grew revenue for the company. Prior to this role, Kennedy served as the General Manager of Global eCommerce for Bio-Rad Laboratories and in executive leadership roles at Sears Holding Company, Toys“R”Us, and Harrah’s Entertainment. 

Kennedy is a former Naval Officer who was stationed in Japan and Singapore. During those overseas tours, he completed at-sea deployments in the Asia Pacific and Arabian Gulf operating areas. In his last active-duty assignment, Kennedy served as the Performance Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. In this role, he designed and implemented the leadership education & development program for 4,000 undergraduate students.

He pledges to continue focusing on the organization’s mission, building on the foundation of success established by previous club leaders, and identifying new ways to help our youth reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.

Kennedy is a native of Prichard, Alabama who graduated from John S. Shaw High School.

Kennedy holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the United States Naval Academy, a Master of Science in Leadership & Human Resource Development from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University, The Fuqua School of Business. He is married to Aqualyn Laury Kennedy.
