A Celebration of Leadership and Achievement.
The 2026 Youth of the Year Luncheon celebrated the leadership, growth, and accomplishments of outstanding Club members from across Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama. Held on May 19 at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel, the annual luncheon brought together Club members, families, alumni, community leaders, sponsors, and supporters to recognize young people who are making a difference in their Clubs and communities.
Four Club members were recognized as 2026 Youth of the Year finalists. Austin English, a Baker High School student representing the Bernard Malkove Club, was named the 2026 Organizational Youth of the Year. Austin has been involved in leadership, workforce readiness, volunteer service, and community involvement through the Club. He plans to attend Auburn University and pursue a career in architecture.
Austin was joined by three fellow finalists: Harmoni Jones of the Semmes Club, Jairon Rogers of the Kiwanis Club, and Matthew Green of the Sonny Callahan Club.
The program also recognized BGCSA’s 2026 Junior Youth of the Year representatives and featured mission moments, performances, alumni, and community partners. Mobile native and Kiwanis Club alumnus Darryl C. Gaines of NASA’s Johnson Space Center served as the distinguished keynote speaker.

Austin English
Bernard Malkove Club — 2026 Organizational Youth of the Year
“I would like for every youth to have a voice and no child left behind.”
Austin is a student at Baker High School and a dedicated member of the Bernard Malkove Boys and Girls Club. Over the years, the Club has played a major role in helping him grow into a confident leader and hardworking student. Austin plans to attend Auburn University and pursue a career in architecture, a field that connects with his creativity and love for design.
At the Club, Austin has been involved in programs focused on leadership, workforce readiness, and community involvement. He enjoys helping younger members, volunteering, and being someone others can look up to. Through these experiences, he has developed stronger communication skills, confidence, and a greater sense of responsibility.
Austin believes it is important for young people to have a voice and feel supported by those around them. He hopes to continue encouraging others while setting an example through his actions, work ethic, and positive attitude. His journey reflects growth, determination, and a genuine desire to make a difference in his community.
Harmoni Jones
Semmes Club
“What matters to me is ensuring that all young people have the support, opportunities, and creative outlets they need to grow, heal, and succeed.”
Harmoni is a student at Mary G. Montgomery High School and a proud member of the Semmes Boys and Girls Club. She is actively involved in athletics, including volleyball, soccer, and track, while maintaining strong academic performance. Through her time at the Club, Harmoni has grown into a confident leader who values teamwork, communication, and giving back. She has participated in leadership programs and enjoys mentoring younger members, helping them build confidence and find their voice. Harmoni is passionate about creating opportunities for others and hopes to one day give back by developing programs that support youth growth and success. Her experiences have shaped her into a driven and compassionate leader who is committed to making a difference.
Matthew Green
Sonny Callahan Club
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”
Matthew is an eighth grade student at Hankins Middle School and a dedicated member of the Sonny Callahan Boys and Girls Club. He is actively involved in Keystone Club, volunteer service projects, and athletics, including track and football. Matthew is known for his kindness, leadership, and willingness to help others. He spends time mentoring younger members, assisting with homework, and giving back through community service efforts. His experiences at the Club have helped shape his confidence, discipline, and strong sense of responsibility. He is passionate about using his voice to encourage others, especially youth who may be facing challenges. Matthew hopes to continue growing as a leader while making a positive impact in his community and beyond.
Jairon Rogers
Kiwanis Club
“Get comfortable being uncomfortable!”
Jairon is a senior at Leflore High School and a dedicated member of the Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club. He plans to pursue a career in HVAC after graduation and has already begun working toward that goal through certifications and hands on experience. He is known for being dependable, respectful, and committed to personal growth. Jairon has been actively involved in service projects, school activities, and Club programs that have strengthened his leadership and teamwork skills. He takes pride in being a positive role model and strives to lead by example in everything he does. Jairon is passionate about helping others feel confident, supported, and motivated.
