We Are Committed To The Safety of Our Youth
At Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama, the safety and well-being of our youth members come first. We are committed to providing safe, inclusive, and welcoming environments where every young person can learn, grow, have fun, and reach their full potential.
We have zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior of any kind, including child sexual abuse or misconduct. Through strong policies, trained staff and volunteers, and programs that build healthy decision-making and social-emotional skills, we work every day to protect and empower our Club members.
Our Safety Policies
Boys & Girls Clubs continually strengthens its safety policies, training, and practices to address potential threats and ensure the highest standards of protection. Through national and local safety initiatives, we use multiple layers of policies, procedures, training, and oversight to help keep our young people safe.
- Mandatory criminal background checks.
- Boys & Girls Clubs are required to immediately report any incident regardless of severity to the appropriate authorities and then to Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
- The organization has a Board-led Safety Committee elevating safety to the highest level of governance.
- Clubs are required to complete a mandatory annual safety assessment.
- BGCA and local Clubs engage leading third-party safety experts on training, policies and resources.
- Any employee looking to move to another Club, MUST have a reference from the previous Club.
- Continual updates to Clubs’ sexual abuse prevention policies, practices, and trainings that align with best practices of healthcare and school-based settings.
- Impactful training and resources for Club youth and families focused on mental health and social-emotional development.
