Jazz Art Writers South and Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama

Jazz Art Writers South (J.A.W.S.) is holding a jazz art exhibit and events at USA libraries. As part of this event, our own Soynika Edwards-Bush has been working with kids at BGCSA to convey their jazz experience. She asked them to listen to an artist and capture what they felt, heard, imagined, or saw when they heard the song. The clubs that participated were Kiwanis, Sonny Callahan, 21st Century Gilliard and Malkove.

“Art is therapy, jazz is soothing and upbeat at times. With this project, the kids were asked to close their eyes, and paint what they felt, heard, smelled, and imagined. They created some really beautiful and meaningful art. Their perspective on “Solitude, I’ll be seeing you, and Miles Davis Blue and Green” is amazing,” says Soynika. Come out and see their works of art on June 16, 2022 at the Marx Library on the campus of University of South Alabama. “We have to support the kids who give it their all, in hopes of reaching the ones who may be standing afar.”
